The society meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month from September through May, at 7:30pm featuring speakers on a variety of topics. The meetings are held at the Minas Basin Development Centre, 52 Main Street.
The society was formed in 1977 to promote preservation of
material relating to the history of the town and surrounding
area including Hants Border, Mount Denson and Bishopville. In
addition to the series of regular meetings and lectures, the
society hires quides each summer to conduct tours of the
Churchill House and Marine Memorial Room and has been actively
collecting artifacts and documents relating to the history of
the area for their library and archives. A commerative calendar
was produced for the year 1995, the 100th anniversary of
incorporation of the town, featuring many original photographs.
Another initiative of the society has been to hire student researchers and in the course of the last twenty years a "People Index" database now approaching 20,000 entries has been compiled from original sources, many not otherwise accessable for the benefit of those researching Hantsport area families.
Membership brings the satisfaction of contributing materialy to
the aims and objectives of the society.
The fee is $3.00 per year for an individual, or $5.00 per year for a family.
