Halifax Herald 9 June 1931. "SPLENDID NEW FERRY LAUNCHED Will link Cape Sable Island with the Mainland; much-needed service. It was christened Edgar N Rhodes in honour of the former Premier of the Province."
Shelburne Gazette and Coast Guard 21 June 1931. "..The ferry is heavily timbered with oak and is hard pine planked, with the hull coppered fastened and sheathed...On the trial trip Wednesday..the ferry Edgar N Rhodes steamed out to the mouth of Shelburne Harbour a distance of nine miles and there was put through many manoeuvres, while the engines were given a two-hour run at high speed. Everything in connection with the ferry boat worked splendidly and all interested were highly pleased with the craft's performance."
